Despite being the second largest of the Canary Islands, Fuerteventura is still a small island and only takes an hour and a half to drive its length. What this also means is that there is always a coast that is working and plenty of empty waves to be surfed! With practically 365 days of sunshine & 25ºC plus weather it has often been called the Hawaii of Europe.
Like the rest of Europe the Autumn/ Winter gets the biggest surf and the spring/summer is perfect for beginner/intermediate surf...The Canaries lie 100kms off Africa and are a magnet for North Atlantic swells. The island is known for both expert waves and many mellow beachbreaks perfect for intermediate improvers.
Corralejo is often the starting point for a Fuerteventura surf holiday, a perfect base and close to many breaks. The main surf break in town is Rocky Point. Perfect for intermediates, improvers and for long boarders. Further across is Los Lobos island (uninhabited) with a World Class right hand point that runs for up to 400metres.
South of Corralejo is beginners surf beach 'Flag beach', close to the famous Dunes. Further south there are many different beaches that pick up good swell.
The North Shore is what the island is famous for and where you will find a coastline full of just about every wave imaginable. El Hierro is a great spot - with 3 different sections suitable for intermediates to experts ('The Bubble'). On the North West coast is the small village of El Cotillo, and one of the most beautiful beaches you will ever see. It is a very nice intermediate beach break and also be on the look out as it is a nudist beach in parts.

How did you like the accommodation?
The hostel was clean and cozy, there was all the basic stuff one need. There is a supermarket nearby, city center is about 10 min walk, there are some nice places to eat and typical touristic shops.
How were the surf lessons?
I had an amazing lesson with Tehillah, learned something new and had a fantastic time enjoying the sunset in the water.

How did you like the accommodation?
Accommodation was kept clean and tidy throughout our stay. Table Tennis, pool and communal areas where great to hang out in and speak to other people staying there. There are some nice cafes and restaurants just 2 minutes down the road next to a supermarket. The main high street is about a 10 min walk away with plenty of pubs, shops and restaurants with reasonable prices.
How were the surf lessons?
Surf lessons were excellent, with plenty of different places to surf. The teachers were fun but professional making it enjoyable and a laugh.

How did you like the accommodation?
The owners of the hostel (Carlos and Camilla) are very nice, they organise weekly barbecues and they organised a Christmas dinner on Christmas eve which was also very nice. Carlos can tell you everything about where to go surfing. The hostel has the feeling of a house, there is a living room, garden and rooftop terrace where you can meet the other people who are staying at the hostel. I definitely would stay there again if I come to Fuerteventura! I would recommend everybody to go stay there!

How did you like the accommodation?
It is always worth visiting this hostel; there is always a very young and friendly atmosphere, created by both clients and staff. It is located on a quiet street so you can sleep like a baby, it has a kitchen, which is great for long stays and some products you can use, the beds are very comfortable and the place is spotless. It is my third visit and definitely not the last; I invite everybody to join the big family of Surf Riders and enjoy the already famous friday barbeque!

How did you like the accommodation?
It was great. A 15 minute walk to the start of Corralejo centre, but far enough away from drunken party goers!
How were the surf lessons with Waveriders Surf School?
The lesson was great, the teacher was friendly and knowledgeable and the beach we were at was perfect for surfing.

How did you like the accommodation?
The accommodation was really nice with some great people looking after the hostel. They put on food a few days a week and doesn't cost much for good food.
The supermarket is 2 minutes walk away and has a good selection of food that is cheap. The harbour is about 25 minutes to walk, it's a nice walk along the seafront.
Rosecco had the largest steak I've ever seen in person for a really reasonable price. Tequila and banana are great for night out.
How were the surf lessons?
The surf lessons were good. I think some more time with the students would be useful. The beaches were nice the waves weren't always the easiest as they either weren't big enough or were too big.

How did you like the accommodation?
The dorms and the whole hostel were very clean and maintained every single day. The shared areas were used reasonably and without problems. The possibilities of going out were great, 5 minutes by foot along the beach to the city center, 2 minutes by foot to the shoppingcentre
How were the surf lessons?
The surf lesson was great, very intense and concentrated

How did you like the accommodation?
I have been in different countries & hostels around the world and I can say that Surf Riders Fuerteventura is one of the best: friendly people, best location in Corralejo close to the dunes/market & spots for surf, the house is safe with new beds on the dorms/private room, nice kitchen and two lovely terraces one on the groundflood with a cute pool where you could meet with travellers around the world, the other terrace upstairs is very nice with chillout sofas where you could practice meditation/ yoga.

I am in love, so no additional words needed. All the instructors were amazing (Aljosa, Fred, Filippo).

How did you like the accommodation?
Before you read on, you have to keep in my mind that i am in my 30s and like a bit of quiet and alone time every now and then.
So... this accommodation was a big mistake.
I had a private room, which was nice enough but it was right next to the hang out balcony area and above the hangout lounge area so there was just constant noise. constant. Chatter, doors slamming, plates and bottles clanking. You have no chance of an early night. people have no respect for others and still chat and laugh at the tops of their voices at 3 in the morning, it's infuriating.
Also you have a separate bathroom across from your room, which is good but the window leads right onto the hang out balcony! The bathroom has what you need and they even supply you with a hairdryer, toothbrush and a small shampoo and shower gel but WARNING... DO NOT (even for one minute leave the door unlocked.) i made the mistake of doing this just to grab something from my room and to head back in, and within this time someone had darted in to use it. I called through the door to them telling them it was a private bathroom and they insisted they didn't know, which was a lie as it had all my stuff set around everywhere. That really annoyed me. People can be so rude and ignorant.
The staff are friendly enough, they allowed me to check in early which was nice. if you are a traveller who likes staying in hostels, likes staying up all night then this is a great place for you. Lots of people to hang out with. and they have a bbq night and different things.
They need to sort out their airport transfer though. I paid a lot of money for a transfer then the driver was not in the pick up point! I waited for a while then ended up strolling around the airport, had to text the accommodation then eventually I get a call from the driver who sees me. He was over at a coffee shop - he said he always waits there as he likes to get a coffee whilst waiting - what good is this to me if the coffee shop was not the arranged meeting point!!! He said he sent me a 'WhatsApp', but i obviously didn't get it because i'm in a foreign country and so without wifi!!!
If you want a banana for breakfast, get down there quick coz there is only ever a few and they go straight away. Other than that the breakfast layout is decent enough.
It's a short walking distance from all the shops and restaurants so the area is very good. Plenty of places to eat.
I was really annoyed on my last day as I found out there was a separate peaceful accommodation across the street, and you just had to go to the hostel for breakfast, i'm sure I would have had a much better time if i stayed there.
I would not book an excursion to the island though, this is a waste of money - plus they cancel it last minute anyway. it's cheaper and better to get a water taxi from the harbour yourself.
How were the surf lessons?
Surf lessons were a big disappointment. Mainly because of the country, there is just constant strong wind and cloud. I went in June so maybe this was the mistake. The instructor was nice enough. But i just found the sea too rough.
Ive had a lesson in Hawaii before and I was awesome! able to stand up and ride the waves right in. But here.... I could hardly even stand! I think it was the combination of having to wear a wetsuit, which although helps keep you warm, it is so restrictive for movement, so hard to bend and do the moves you need to do without ten times the strength. This along with the rough waves and constant wind, I was very disappointed.

The staff was great! Very welcoming, helpful and always with a great smile happy to help. It is a great place to meet people, go surfing and hang out with big also take your time and space.
The town is quite small but I would still suggest to rent a car to go visiting beaches
Nearby.

The lessons were very useful and the instructors looked after us. I would definitely go back

How did you like the accommodation?
Accomodation is nice, clean, breakfast pretty good, town and supermarkets are near.
How were the surf lessons?
I took surf lessons at Protest Surf school, teachers I had were very nice and give good tips but thig I did not like is that thay put us in the intermediate group (cos they needed spots for beginners I guess) and took us to beach and waves that were not for us.
