Boa Onda Guesthouse Peniche unites our passion for the sea, our love for Portugal, our delight in good food and our commitment to a healthy lifestyle dedicated to surf and yoga.
We are easy to reach, only a few steps away from the ocean and just a one to hour drive from the beautiful city of Lisbon.
The Guesthouse can accommodate 20 guests in 3 rooms with private bathroom (one suite with ocean view), 5 double rooms with shared bathroom and 1 shared dorm (4 beds).
Surf lessons, guiding & equipment is available on site, there is a big terrace where you can wash and dry your wetsuit and a surf equipment storage area.
Surf & Yoga Packages available.
Breakfast and fruits are included in packages, or otherwise the healthy breakfast is available for €7. You can also book thai massage or osteopathy. You can rent surf equipment, bikes or skateboards. A fully equipped kitchen is also available.

Location
Boa Onda Guesthouse lies in the beautiful Peniche coastline, in a district called Consolacao, less than 2 minutes walk from the beach.
We are close to Supertubos beach in Peniche
The surroundings of our guesthouse offer plenty of things to do and see, besides surfing and yoga. We can arrange them all for you while you are here.
We are 20 minutes drive from the beautiful medieval town Obidos, we can arrange a car for you or you can easily go there by bus.
Taste local food (pastel de nata, fresh fish), rent a bike (we have also bike available) and explore the surrounding or arrange your tour to the stunning Berlenga Island (1h by boat).
Boa Onda Guesthouse Peniche is your house to the beach, where you can totally disconnect from the world and soak up at the Portuguese sun.

We offer daily yoga classes for all levels in our private outdoor sunny deck (or in the beautiful pablic terrace in front of the beach of Consolação, depends on the weather conditions). You'll have a stunning ocean view and sunset light during yoga class.

CONSOLACAO RIGHT AND LEFT
Level: All Levels
This is our closest surfspot, only a few steps away from Boa Onda Guesthouse. We are south of Peniche and home of 2 pointbreaks, the left starts on rocks but ends in sand. It is a powerful fast wave, that can only work once in a while, south or west swells but East or no wind is the key. Next to it is also a nice beachbreak that is perfect for beginner/intermediate surfers.
The right is a scenic long pointbreak that can be a fat longboard wave but can also be a serious big wave spot, as it works even on the biggest swell.
Watch out, the wave packs lots of water and the entry/exit is tricky.
SUPERTUBOS
Level: Advanced
The queen of the area, best beachbreak of Portugal and probably Europe. Often referred as the european Pipeline, this wave is fast, powerful and always barreling.
It can be the dream wave of your life, but be prepared to get some serious pounding.
The wave is only a few meters from the shore and is also spectacular to viewers from the beach
The predominant wind from N and offshore or side to off.
In October each year hosts the World Tour, and it is a sight not to be missed!
MOLHO LESTE
Level: Advanced
To the south of Peniche and just north of Supertubos, the waves change swell and wind exposure as well as behaviour, so this powerful wedgy right is much stronger and faster than the waves north of Peniche. The long harbour jetty helps to give shelter from swell and wind and it gives the sandbanks a very good shape, in the good days when Supertubos is to scary to paddle out, this is the place to get some good barrels.
Localised and advanced surfers only
PORTO BATEL
Level: Advanced
500 meters south of Consolacao, a spot surfed mainly by locals, give them respect and join that good righthand reef wave, that can be surfed from mid tide up. It is a good wave ideal for carvings.
PAPOA
Level: Advanced
This is the undisputed big wave spot of the area, rocky bottom and heavy wave for the brave and skilled only. Into the bay a good a to frame wave on rocks will appear on the right wind and swell combo, these days, long performance walls on offer.
GAMBOA
Level: Beginner
The last corner of the Baleal Bay and you are almost in Peniche as the beach is flanked by city walls. It is ideal for the first steps on the board, or as a fallback in the event of massive swell from the south.
CERRO
Level: All Levels
Towards Peniche, the bay bends a bit and receive less swell, this is the place to go in bigger western or south swell. Nice banks and cool crowds.
BALEAL MIDDLE BAY/ MEIA PRAIA
Level: All Levels
Middle of the Baleal Bay gets the most of the swell around compared to the other westerly spots. The wave packs some power and it is offshore with SE to NE wind, when the conditions are on is a really quality wave, with barrels too.
CANTINHO DA BAIA
Level: All Levels
To the south side of the Baleal Island. Good sheltered spot with predominant northern swell, schools, longboarders and nice vibes. Can be a really good shortboard wave to when the conditions are on.
PRAINHA
Level: Beginner
Nice easy beach break southside of Lagide, with a spectacular landscape provided by Baleal island. A wave that is beginner friendly and usually targeted by surfschools.
LAGIDE
Level: All Levels
In the center beach town of Baleal this reef can be defined as a really long and manouverable lefthander, there’s also a righthander, sometimes really good, 300meters to the north. The wave can be mellow in small conditions or fat in high tide, but totally amazing with some size and mid tide. Watch out for the urchin covered rocks at low tide. SW to E is offshore.
ALMAGREIRA
Level: All Levels
This beach is another swell magnet, the wave is usually messed up by wind and swell, so a good option in those small days or S to SW wind. The lefts are usually long with steep walls of good quality.
PICO DA MOTA
Level: Intermediate
In the north coast of Peniche, following a dirt road up from Almagreira you will find this beautiful white sandy beach, that in a good day can serve up some incredible tubular waves. Swell magnet to be checked in small days and no N wind, mid tide the best!

The best thing about the Peniche & Baleal peninsula is that the beaches face both north and south, and are all within a few kilometres of each other. So on nearly all conditions there is surf - it is well known as one of Portugal's most consistent surf destinations and a great place for a Surfing Holiday.
The WSL World Tour comes to Peniche every year in October and is a great time to visit if you want to watch the worlds best surfers such as Kelly Slater, Gabriel Medina & Mick Fanning battle it out to win. Surf everyday while watching the event also.
The areas main surf beach is called Cantinho da Baía, its starts in Peniche and ends up in the area knows as Baleal. The spot is famous for its consistency and for being ideal for beginners and intermediate surfers and is where some of the best Baleal Surf Camps are located. Protected from the bigger swell by the headland makes it’s almost always possible to surf here even when there is big swell hitting the coast. The beach stretches 4kms further west with many spots to surf - a great place to get away from crowds.
On the other side of the Baleal headland is Prainha, another great protected surf spot for beginner and intermediate surfers. And next to this is Lagide , a reef break and one of the best surf spots in Portugal if you have big swell and southerly winds. It's a long perfect left with a shallow reef at low tides - great for intermediate/advanced surfers.
On the other side of Peniche (south) is the area's and arguably Portugal's most famous break Supertubos . It's a powerful wave breaking in very shallow sand bar, advanced/pro surfers only! Other waves such as Molhe Leste, Consolação, Porto Batel and Almagreira are all close by giving every kind of alternative including many uncrowded areas; a great area to explore and Surf Portugal's best waves!
And don't forget you can head south and surf Ericeira - less than an hour's drive away.

CANCELLING YOUR BOOKING
- To cancel go to the MyAccount section and log in or register and you can cancel from within your account.
- Your deposit is non refundable but can be used for the same property/surf school within one year of your original booking.
- Cancellation requested within 15 days prior to the check-in date the deposit will not be refunded (30 days, referring to reservations to take place during our prime months: July – August – September).

I liked the fact that the guesthouse is not so big, it makes it a cosy place. And that way you get enough attention in the surf and yoga classes.

I went surf guiding with Riccardo, we saw different spots, but mainly two in a week stay, cause the waves were perfect for my level.

How did you like the accommodation?
I stayed in a dorm which was spacious clean and tidy. The bunk beds were a bit old and creaky but comfortable enough and there was a balcony for drying off swimwear after a surf.
I felt very safe as the hostel was small and well managed by a couple who were friends with the owners. Cooking facilities were available but I enjoyed having the breakfast on site (cereal, toast, homemade cake, juice, fruit and proper coffee).
It's in a small town with a number of small reasonably priced restaurants, mostly selling seafiod but a pizzeria too. I don't think there's much late night life but you can get ataxi for ten euros each way to Baleal for late night bars now and then without having to stay there.
Beautiful beach, generally suitable for surf but we got driven to another a few miles away when needed.
How were the surf lessons?
Surf lessons were generally very good, conditions the first day weren't suitable for beginners but I understand the conditions are variable. Knowledgeable and attentive instructors and lots of room onthe beach to practice. Great place to learn to surf.

How did you like the accommodation?
We stayed in Consolação, at the Boa Onda Guest House. The guest house is great, very relaxing, very clean, and very near the beach. The staff there and the owners are extremely cool, friendly and helpful. The town is small with a few restaurants, but Peniche is close by, and if you have access to a car, Balial is about 10mins away with lots of great places to eat. Consolação is not very touristy, it's quiet, beautiful, with a fantastic beach. Exactly what we needed.
How were the surf lessons?
It has been 3 years since my previous surf lessons, so I'd forgotten a lot. The instructors were very thorough, they did great warm ups and explained things very well. They keep an eye on everyone and constantly offer individual tips for improvements - I went back after each session and wrote invaluable things down in a notebook. I really enjoyed the lessons. They were very friendly too so it was fun to learn.
The beaches are great for beginners to advanced beginners. Even with small waves, there are opportunities to learn and fortify the basics. I'd go back there again in a heartbeat for more lessons. The beach is just across the road from the guesthouse too, so no lengthy van rides to start. For intermediate lessons, they search out bigger waves in the area.

The accommodation was fit for purpose. It was close to the beach. We had the best food at this beach while we were in Portugal. The area is quite calm, not too lively, ideal for a calm holiday with surf and yoga classes.

I liked the surf lessons very much. The instructors were knowledgeable and took care of making their best to make sure we have a great experience. They were supportive and we like the beaches very much as well.

Chiara's daily yoga sessions were the perfect introduction to Hatha and just what you need after a day on the waves! Valentina's lunches were so delicious I had them daily!
Goda (Godess), Luna and iLiana were the perfect hostesses from chilling out jammin' songs on the guitar to big nights in Baleal.
I felt great after staying at Boa Onda and I hope to return one day! Thank you all!

BOA ONDA guesthouse is a really peaceful and relaxing place, Riccardo and his crew are really nice guys. Always supporting to any queries and always try to make you happy.

Surf instructors were really nice and surf lessons were provided to only few people, max 5 person which makes a lot of difference compare to big surf school where teachers can not provide you dedicated tips. Samuel is really a great surf instructor, full of good advice and always taking care of its students
