A new breed of surf hostel has come to Midigama: Surf Swell.
Right in front of Plantations, one of the most popular surf spots on the Sri Lankan South Coast, Surf Swell Hostel sticks out in Midigama with its brand new restaurant & surf shop directly attached to the property. So you won' t have to worry beyond grabbing your board, heading to your favorite surf spot in the location, delight you with western, local and fusion cuisine and chill with your hostel buddies. All the dorms are mixed and come equipped with lockers (no worries, you' ll be provided with the key). Towels & breakfast included in the room rate.
Fancy some food? There is an onsite restaurant under the same brand, which provides international food menu, complemented with healthy and high nutritious food which will support to get and to recover energies after your surf sessions as well as with varied option so every day can be a bit 'different' choosing different breakfast or your favorites from the a la carte menu.

Location
One of the most popular surf locations in Sri Lanka due to the high number of spots in the area and options, from beginner to advance levels.
Right next 2 the hostel you´ll find 2 surf spots: Plantation and a bit further Coconut. Less of 5 minutes away walking, the powerful swell at Rams is waiting for you. And 850 km from the hostel, Lazy Left and Lazy Right with their pretty long rides with a to depending on the day to mellow break.
Midigama area itself is a surf town with a very relaxed vibe. Still developing, those surfers and beach lovers usually stay here for weeks. For a more touristy experience, you can always move for a day trip to Unawatuna or Midigama. However, there is a very popular party in Midigama named Cheeky Monkey where we love to have blast every Wednesday ;)
Also, the area is surrounded by other surf towns such as Ahangama and Weligama, both of them with numerous surf spots, most of them hidden gems where he line to ups are pretty much empty. Reef & beach breaks in all of them, excepting the Weligama beach break, one of the most popular spots for beginners.

Plantation is the favorite spot,located right infront of Surf Swell Hostel & situated in the frontal façade of the hostel with ocean & palm trees scenery. This 4 people dorm has a fan & a shared toilet outside. All the beds come equipped with sockets.

In the center of Midigama you'll find Rams, as well as you' ll find this 12 people dorm in the heart of the building.
Have a break after the Sri Lankan heat with the AC after a refreshing shower at its ensuite toilet.

Lazy Left is called "Lazy" as the break is slower than the average in Midigama. As the dorm, ready to accommodate 14 hostel buddies to chill with its AC after the journey or surf session. Slowing down in your dorm is great and it comes with ensuite toilet

November - March is the dry season and has the most consistent surf.
Weligama is a perfect beginner and intermediate surf break. It is arguable the most consistent beach break on the South Coast.
Only a quick 4KM and ten minutes by tuk-tuk from Weligama is the idyllic Mirissa. A quiet stretch of beach that has turquoise and crystal clear waters on beaches fringed by palms.
Mirissa is an established stop-off for surfers, with two breaks at either end of the beach. There is a right-hander reef break near the rocks that doesn’t generate much power, that is great for those who are progressing on to reef. And an equally good left-hander close to the harbour.
