About
We're Rafa & Dina, a family with an strong passion for Surf, Sea and Nature.
We're surfers since we're 10 years old (15 years ago) and since 2016 when we created Douro Surf | Hostel & Surf School we've been sharing our love to Surf with all travelers in Porto.
If you want to try surf for the first time or if you are a surfer for years join us at Douro Surf.
We'll introduce you to all our Surf Team as Manuel, the coach of Douro Surf School, one of the most respectful Portuguese surfers!

Beginner Surf
We'll pick you up at Douro Surf | Hostel & Surf School, new the city center and we'll start our surftrip for the best beaches for your surf level around Porto. Surf Classes last for 3h and includes: Transport + Material (Surfboard & Wetsuit) + Snack + Lesson with a Pro-Surfer. We'll explaining you everything you need to know about beach analises, surf techniques and catching waves.
Intermediate Surf
We'll pick you up at Douro Surf | Hostel & Surf School, new the city center and we'll start our surftrip for the best beaches for your surf level around Porto. Surf Classes last for 3h and includes: Transport + Material (Surfboard & Wetsuit) + Snack + Lesson with a Pro-Surfer. We'll show you the best spots and teach you the best surf techniques for improve your Surf level.
Advanced Surf
We'll pick you up at Douro Surf | Hostel & Surf School, new the city center and we'll start our surftrip for the best beaches for your surf level around Porto. Surf Classes last for 3h and includes: Transport + Material (Surfboard & Wetsuit) + Snack + Lesson with a Pro-Surfer. We'll surf together at the best spots and teach you the best surf techniques and everything to compete.
Surf Guide
We offer surf guiding by the best Surf Spots in the North Portugal for those who want to explore the coast and experience the best waves.
SUP
We'll pick you up at Douro Surf Hostel, new the city center, Douro River and D.Luis bridge and we'll go to Douro River where we'll do SUP with the best view of Porto city. We'll explaining you everything you need to know about river analises, SUP techniques, correct position on the board and riding properly. SUP Classes last for 2h and includes: Transport + Material (Board & Lifejacket) + Snack

Espinho Surf Destination

Sandy bottom with hugh ocean wall.Works from half meter to solid 4 meters swell.

This is a good surf spot in Porto for beginner and intermediates. Its a long 1km sandy beach with a few different points on it. The set up is a mix of beach break and reef break and parts of it are sheltered so it handles larger swell. Easy to get to and consistent.

The best time to surf Porto is between Spring through to Autumn. It's main surf beach is Matosinhos beach, the best surf spot in Porto for beginner and intermediates. Its a long 1km sandy beach with a few different points on it. The set up is a mix of beach break and reef break and parts of it are sheltered so it handles larger swell. Easy to get to and consistent.
Next to Matosinhos is International Beach. A lovely spot that begins where the city park ends. Its also a great learner spot, and a great place to hang out both during day and at night. Further north is Leca, a very consistent beach break protected by the harbour.
In and around the city there are small little beaches all worth exploring, particularly for the more advanced surfers wanting to discover the best Porto surf breaks.
There are more surf breaks further south including Barra do Porto and Miramar and then 20km south of Porto are the towns of Esphino and Esmoriz. Its arguably the North's most famous surf area and the beaches have a real nice surf culture. The area's 3 main beaches are Silvade, beach, Blue beach and Baia beach. A mix of sandy beach breaks and reef spots that suit beginner and advanced. Hang around and score some long barreling right & left handers all to yourself.

What happens if the surf school cancel the Surf Lessons?
In the rare occasion that conditions do not allow for the surf lesson to go ahead you will be given a full refund.

Really great experience as a first time surfer, the staff were all very friendly and accommodating, and Manuel was an awesome instructor as well! Highly recommend this if you are visiting Porto!

Great experience with Douro Surf! My trainer was a really nice surfer with 40 years of experience, who told a lot of stories, was really patient, explained everything step by step and I guess that the best proof of competence is the fact, that after the lesson I could stand on the boear and actually surf! :) It was a great fun, the price is nice, totally recommend! :) I will come back in the future for sure!
