Freeride is one of the oldest schools in town! Founded in 2002 by the siblings, Marta and João, from Portugal, Freeride Surf School has taught and trained thousands of students and athletes combining a perfect surfing experience with passion for Nature and the Ocean! - Due to changing tides exact surf lesson start times are not decided until the week of your lesson.
- After you book we will contact you the week of your lesson to tell you your lessons start time.
Kids Surf
Children under 12 years old have to have private lessons. Instructor to Student ratio 1:1 (at 16h00 - depending on availability) Children over 12 years old can join group lessons. Instructor to Student ratio 1:8
Beginner Surf
Everyone over 12 years old is welcome! Instructor to Student ratio 1:8 Meeting Point: Freeride Surf Center in Sagres right outsider the Memmo Baleeira Hotel.
Intermediate Surf
Depending on the conditions each day and on the number of students and levels! Everyone over 12 years old is welcome! Instructor to Student ratio 1:8 Meeting Point: Freeride Surf Center in Sagres right outsider the Memmo Baleeira Hotel.
Advanced Surf
For Advanced students we recommend Private Surf Lessons OR Private Surf Guide around the area pendind availability and conditions! Every extra person is 50,00€ more. This area of Portugal is a year round surf destination and has the warmest sea water in the country. In the summer months you can surf in just shorts or a shortie and it doesn't get dark until 10pm so you can surf all day long! The coastline is part of the protected natural park with 50 kilometres of protected beaches with no large towns or high rise tourist accommodations. Instead you will discover beautiful pristine beaches and small traditional towns a far cry from the main overrun Algarve tourist spots.
Amado beach is the areas best beginner/intermediate surf beach and a great starting point. Amado is surrounded by many other great surf breaks with options for all standards. Praia da Cordoama is one of the most picturesque beaches in Portugal, a long stretch of sand protected by cliffs, a great intermediate spot. Praia do Castelejo beside it is even more consistent.
There's a dozen beaches further north all worth exploring including Arrifana & Amoreira, two very consistent beginner/intermediate beach breaks.
Furthest south is the laid back surf town of Sagres. The beaches East of Sagres such as Zavial & Martinhal are usually calm and require a big swell to work, they are a great alternative if the surf on the beaches on the West coast are too big. There are many hidden spots around Sagres some of which will require an SUV to get too but are well worth it especially for the more experienced.

- Your deposit is non refundable but can be used for the same property/surf school within one year of your original booking.

What happens if the surf school cancel the Surf Lessons?
In the rare occasion that conditions do not allow for the surf lesson to go ahead you will be given a full refund.

Professional Teachers and Unique Atmosphere
Compared to many other surfschools I joined I am still obverwhelmed how professional and friendly these guys have been. The initial contact was uncomplicated and fast. I would like to point out Hugo F. as a very understanding teacher, who helped us a lot in surfing. Even in bad weather conditions he woukd look for a beach appropriate for us. Also he was such an encouraged teacher who is really interested in making you better in surfing. Within the group the support was individuell. I would definteley recommend this surfschool for beginner and intermediate surfers.

I would totally recommend this surfing school - friendly attitude of the staff, nice location, transport provided. I had my classes with San - funny, friendly and professional instructor! Go there, you will not regret it at all and only enjoy it to the fullest!

Awesome experience
The team at Freeride provided us with an awesome week of surfing. They are a friendly, fun group of people and my fiancee and I really enjoyed our time at Freeride. The instruction is top notch and the coaches provide constant feedback and reminders, giving you helpful tips throughout the day. Most importantly, the team has a great attitude, and they make the entire day fun. If I am ever back in Sagres, I'll be back at Freeride.

Fabulous and fun week of surfing with Freeride!
Thank you so much to our super amazing instructors Anna and Tatiana for the best week of surfing with Freeride! We were really happy with the perfect balance of coaching and fun and collected many beautiful memories. Anna and Tatiana were always in the water helping us to progress and provided lots of handy tips to break surfing down into simple steps, so that it was easier to pick up. Everyone in the group made lots of progress which was great. We would highly recommend Freeride to others and hope to be back with Chicks On Waves very soon! Emma, Clare and Lizzie. :-)

Great Surftime with Freeride Surfcamp
It is my second time and I felt in love again with the whole team.
The changing coaches helps a lot to learn on different ways. I was there in May so the groups was small and we got a very personal training.
Also the surf house directly on the beach is nice, so you can drop your stuff safe.
