Hundreds of spectators lined up at Chambre d'Amour beach to watch Jorgann Couzinet win the Anglet Surf de Nuit 2016 being contested just a stone’s throw from our Biarritz surf camps.

Held in fun, three foot waves in contestable punchy waves at the Anglet beach break, spectators were treated to some aerial displays in the darkness with LED lights allowing the crowd, and more importantly, the judges to see the action unfold.

Even an unseasonal summer downpour couldn’t dampen the crowd’s spirits for this fantastic event. After some solid surfing right from the start, it was Jorgann Couzinet who took out the win after taking to the sky with a tail spinning forward rotation to the delight of the crowd.

A perfect warm-up to his next QS event, the Pro Anglet. Speaking of this unusual contest, the winner had this to say:

"It was tough at first to get used to the board, but once I got a hang of it, it was fun! I couldn't believe people stuck around with the rain and thunder - the crowd was going off! “Surfing in the dark is definitely extraordinary, even with all the balloons and LEDs on the board you never quite see as well as during the day. I've repeatedly worked to land those manoeuvres, so it's become kind of automatic now."

The full results were:
1. Jorgann Couzinet
2. Leo Paul Etienne
3. David Leboulch
4. Roland Lefeuvre
5. Vincent Duvignac
6. Thomas La Fonta
