The best waves occur in the north half of Lanzarote. The Island has consistent year round surf and 22 degree plus sunshine meaning you don't need a thick wetsuit and in the summer you can get by in a shortie or even just shorts!
Lessons often occur on the Lanzarote's most reliable surf beach, Playa de Famara, on the north west coast of the island. A beautiful white sand beach that stretches for 6km and is surrounded by the stunning Famara mountain range. Another great beginners area is the north east of the island in Arrieta.
Surfing Lanzarote is all about the north part of the island. The area from Playa de Famara to La Santa has been described by the Stromriders Surf Guide as "one of the best surf locations in Europe!" This stretch of Lanzarote picks up all the north and west swells and contains a mix of surf breaks facing numerous different directions. So no matter what way the wind is blowing there will always be a range of peaks to surf.
The more intermediate/ advance area is 'El Centro' in La Santa, in the north west and not far from Famara, it’s a solid reef break, best at high tide.
Travel around the north of the island and you will find many different breaks including some world class 'lava reefs'. Each September the WSL World Tour comes to town with the 6 star prime event. The worlds best surfers compete for the €125,000 in prize money.

How were the surf lessons?
The surf lessons were very cool!! Manu and Manu, (no confusion here), Maylis and Omar were helpful and good fun. I had some rough knowledge of surf but the Manu(s) really help me and I manage to catch some waves on the very first day!!
At the surf school, Elsy and her husband who were managing it, were absolute stars! Always a smile a their face and ready to help with any enquiries - as I was travelling solo it definitely was reassuring!!

How were the surf lessons?
Classes were good, teacher and other staff all more than lovely. Hopefully will try again in Ireland if I find somewhere with less massive waves!

How were the surf lessons?
Took 3 lessons with Zoopark. Lessons were great instuctors very knowledgeable and good fun! Gave good tips about reading conditions and felt safe at all times. Tailored experience over the 3 days based on how they saw me in the water so I could progress and learn more and use different boards. The beach was clean and well maintained life guards were also very visible. No bathroom on the beach but I didn’t need one any time I was in the beach

How were the surf lessons?
The surf beach at Famara is beautiful. We had some nice days and some stormy days which they say is uncharacteristic. The instructor offered paddle boarding as an alternative for one of the days. I enjoyed it overall.

How were the surf lessons?
Five days of private lessons: Juan was very helpful and we learned a lot. Equipment was good & shop was close to beach (and easy to find).
Everything was brilliant, I have surfed a lot before and was slightly worried about getting lessons but the instructor was brilliant and was able to teach me loads more, Paula was fantastic and very helpful
Marcio was really top class, excellent teacher & very decent guy. Conditions mixed, had one beautiful day which made it more than worthwhile. Would definitely recommend location & surf school
The surf lessons were really useful. Many of us haven't had proper lessons before, so the techniques and tips they provided were very beneficial. It was nice to have lunch provided, however this was a bit small for many of the guys and they would have preferred something in addition to just a sandwich. The surf hire was good, and was great to be able to swap surfboards for body boards.
My surf lessons were awesome- my instructor Pachey was great and helped me out a lot individually. The work we did on land helped a lot as well.
We really enjoyed the lessons. They did start late every morning at least 30 minutes. So every morning started with us sitting around waiting for other people to arrive/ the school to get organised. Once started we were happier!
The surf lessons were really good. We went from not being able to stand up on a wave to turning front and backside within 3 to 4 days Towards the end of the week we would have liked some more time in the sea to practice what we had learnt as we had the same lessons repeated a few times. On the whole we had a great time. The staff going the extra mile really made the holiday extra special
The crew were brilliant. Lessons well thought out and very well delivered. Very approachable and just generally all round good fun. 8/10.
The instructors were great. The lessons were really thorough, I was impressed right from the warm up! Unfortunately the change overs meant they person teaching you hadn't necessarily seen your progress from the previous day and I felt like this may have slowed down my learning but other than that they were tops. The quality of the waves was more than adequate for my ability and the surfing conditions were good.
Surf lessons were actually great, learned much more and got much more feedback from tutors than previous holidays we have been on. Special mention to Johnny and Pache who did seem to make an effort with everyone and were always very approachable.
The lessons were great and they made a real effort for us to get the most out of them. They made us feel as safe as we could given the bad weather we had one day - the instructors were kind enough to take us to a Spa for an afternoon and then for dinner in a town La Santa which was just perfect, we had such a laugh. The beach was lovely and the view of those mountains are absolutely incredible. We did go to other beaches like Player Blancha (which we were not that impressed about) but there was another beach Player Papayoga (cant spell it) which was gorgeous.
The surf lessons I enjoyed! I found the waves huge, but that probably depends partly on the weather. The instructors (Lenny, Patchi?) were lovely, good fun and helpful and we had a laugh with them. I didn't make any progress really but I blame that on the size of the waves! The beach was beautiful, especially with the dramatic mountainous backdrop.
Surf lessons were good, even if the timings given weren't actually that accurate. 10:30 start was actually 11ish. But once you get used to the relaxed attitude then you become totally fine with this state of affairs. I'm a fairly fit guy and I shattered by the end of the days surfing. Losing 30 mins definitely wasn't a big deal. I didn't experience a huge amount of one on one tuition but I think I got what I needed out of the lessons. The main plus was how lovely the people were. Very open, very welcoming, with a really fun attitude. Had a lot of fun surfing
We really enjoyed learning to surf on nice beach, all the instructors were really cool and Paola was friendly and helpful
The surf lessons were cool, all levels were catered for and carried out in a safe and fun way. it takes a day or 2 to get used to the laid back approach. Overall a truly amazing place with waves to suit all levels. i`m already planning a return trip
Surf lessons were great, instructors are lovely, 5 hours passes really quickly. There were no more than 9 of us in any one lesson which is a good number. There were other schools on the beach who had close to 25 or so and I think I would have enjoyed that less. They are also very flexible, you can take full days or half days off with little notice if you have other plans
The surf was bad one day so, they got us to do tricks and techniques out in the open water which was brilliant. Coffee over there was great too !!! The surf lessons were absolutely brilliant; two Brazilian guys and a lovely guy from Italy in particular were excellent; showed me (finally) how to turn left and right on the waves. I was so happy with this. Lots of theory covered too which was something new and really informative. Actually, these two guys were the best I have seen in a long long time; proper coaches who watch, observe and then give small tips to improve depending on your skills etc.
I had 5 inclusive surf lessons and this was definitely the best part of the holiday. The beach was beautiful and just a walk away from the house. The surf instructor (Marcio - probably not spelt like that either) was really funny / spoke really good english and didnt laugh too much at my pathetic attempts at surfing. Day to day there were different abilities and sizes of the classes but this added to the lessons and was handled brilliantly. if you go, you have to take the surf classes, whether you are a beginner like me, or even a seasoned surfer, Marcio will definitely be able to teach you something. Their surf shop, which is just around the corner from the house, hires wetsuits, boards, fins, bodyboards and even car / scooter rentals...so if there was anything that you had missed or just wanted to rent, they can help you really easily
Surf classes were perfect. We did a 5-day course and we spent much more time than promised on the beach (until I could stand up properly!)
The instructors are faultless!! First school I've been with where they actually get in the water and not just to surf themselves!
